GeoTom

The software packages consists of TomTime for time and amplitude picking, and GeoTomCG for tomographic inversion.

TomTime provides automatic picking (with optional manual editing) of first-arrival or first-peak times and amplitudes of the first three peaks.

TomTime reads data files from any common seismograph or Mala crosshole GPR, and an optional file of source and receiver 3-D coordinates.

Automatic first-break picking is based on the auto-picker in the popular refraction program SIPwin. Output is in the format used for input by the 3-D tomographic program GeoTomCG for traveltime or amplitude inversions. The user can choose whether output files provide times and amplitudes or just times.

TomTime can also write and read ASCII files of the waveforms, which allows the data to be examined with spreadsheet or other data processing a software.

TomTime provides many filter and overlay options for use with shear waves and noisy data.

GeoTomCG provides a powerful but easy-to-use and economical 3-D tomographic inversion program with many options for improving the reliability of results.

Eight years of use for data processing by many customers have guided improvements. Source-to-receiver traveltimes can be analyzed to calculate velocities, or amplitudes can be analyzed to calculate attenuation coefficients. Source and receiver positions can be in any configuration within a 3-D grid. Anisotropy can be specified for each point of the grid. Raypaths can be straight or curved. Versatile constraints allow site information to influence the inversion and provide more reliable results.

GeoTomCG provides graphical displays of velocities, raypath densities, and other parameters for inspecting results and preparing reports. These displays can be copied to the Windows clipboard and pasted into documents. It also provides 3-D numerical results and 2-D slices of the 3-D grid as ASCII files that can be read by commercial 3-D and 2-D visualization software.
